TITLE: STUDY DEVELOPMENT OF FUTILITY INDEX IN DECEASED DONOR LIVER TRANSPLANTATION
INTRODUCTION
Although liver transplantation is considered as a life-saving procedure, some patients are too sick to undergo this procedure and outcomes can be largely compromised, which can be considered as futile. However, Determining the potentials of the futility of liver transplantation in an individual patient is a difficult issue and there has been no multicenter study investigating this issue so far. The aim of this study is to identify risk factors related to futile outcomes after deceased donor liver transplantation and develop a futility index that can be readily usable and widely applicable using data from multicenters in Korea and UNOS database from USA.
OBJECTIVES
Identify risk factors related to futile outcome after deceased donor liver transplantation
Develop a futility index that can be readily usable and widely applicable
STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective
PARTICIPANTS: International multi-center
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Korea: Any center that performed more than 50 cases of DDLT during the study period
USA: Institutions that have a mutual contract with Weil Cornell Medicine to waive IRB approval
Inclusion criteria
1. Adult DDLT recipient (age equal to or greater than 18)
2. MELD score 30 or above at the time of matching
Exclusion Criteria
1. Status I – fulminant hepatic failure
2. Patients with HCC on preoperative evaluation (regardless of bonus point), however, incidental diagnosis of HCC on pathologic examination does not exclude enrollment.
3. Patients who were lost to follow up within 1 year after surgery
