TITLE: Surgical and oncological outcomes of laparoscopic versus open liver resection for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (iCCA)
OBJECTIVES
Primary objectives
To determine the differences in postoperative complications and oncological outcome according to the surgical approach to liver resection in iCCA (LLR vs OLR).
Secondary objectives
To determine the differences in operative factors (e.g., operative blood loss, blood transfusion during the operation, operative time, postoperative hospital stay) according to the surgical approach. To determine the differences in patients’ recurrence-free survival rates and overall survival rates after liver resection according to the surgical approach.
STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective
PARTICIPANTS: International multi-center
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA: > 20 resections for iCCA in the study period
Inclusion criteria
• The initial treatment for iCCA was either pure laparoscopic liver resection (LLR) or open liver resection (OLR).
• LLR of OLR in iCCA was performed during 2013–2019.
Exclusion criteria
• Patients who underwent surgery for another malignancy during the same operative setting.
• The transition cases from laparoscopic to open liver resection.
• The hybrid cases combined laparoscopic and open liver resection.
• The history of locoregional therapies such as RFA, TACE, liver resection or radiation.
